Home-Buying Tips
- Talk to at least 2 lenders. Remember to look at the rate and the points to determine what is best for you. Just because a rate is low, the lender may have hidden costs. Be sure to compare apples to apples.
- You should bring a notepad to take notes or take pictures/videos when viewing homes. Otherwise, the houses will begin to run together.
- Keep all documents in a file on your desktop for easy access for future reference. This is essential during the loan process because you will be asked for the same document several times.
- Do NOT make any large purchases once under contract (ie.. cars, motorcycles, trips, furniture, etc..) without consultation with your lender, as you can lose the opportunity to purchase your home.
- Don’t apply for a new credit card. Don’t close any credit cards unless it is the lender’s recommendation.
- Only change jobs after consulting with the lender.
- Don’t miss any payments. Your credit will be pulled when you apply for a loan. It will also be pulled a day or two before closing.
